Blog vs. Website?

What's the diff?

Here are some things to first understand.
  • A blog is a Website! So is a Wikispace, so is Facebook, twitter, tumblr...
  • Generally speaking anything on the internet is thought of as a website.r
  • They say Blogs are more dynamic and websites more static.
  • Blogs are found by search engines faster and therefor your writings are out there to your readers sooner.
  • Blogs are more dynamic since they allow users comments and encourage feeds from other places.
  • Blogs are historically chronological logs or diaries.  So each entry is added by date.
  • Tags can be added to related things and make it easy to sort content.  (If tagged properly)

What do I use?

I use them both. Why?
  • I use this blog more for commentary and refer to my static webpages with content. Each page I make I try to decide if it should be a blog or a page.
  • I like the blog feature because it is easy to do from an app on a phone or device.  Some of the posts have even been spoken.  Can you tell which ones?
  • Blogs can be subscribed to by readers and they will get an update when content is added.
  • As far as adding content - Here on Weebly it exactly the same drag and drop features.
  • I keep toying with the idea of adding blog entries instead of longer e-mails to my staff.  Better? Well it would be easier to refer back to or resend.

HUH?

That all being said... I disagree with some of it!
  • You can usually tell the difference from a blog and website as blogs are filled with ads.
  • Websites can have dynamic information as long as the owner allows comments on their site in various other ways.
  • Websites can be current if the owner just updates them!
  • Blogs are more commercialized (see #1 above) and writers get paid by the ad clicks.  I have no plans for ads but then again I have no idea if anyone will even read this.
  • I don't read long blog entries.  I like them short and to give me something more to think about or look into.
  • That being said...
