LanSchool

Picture
LanSchool on a Chrome book does work.

You know and love LanSchool, LanSchool lets you monitor/observe and remote control student computers and see what they are doing.  As well as many other features including a web history...

To install it, it must be requested and then the;
LanSchool app gets pushed from the district to student Chromebooks
LanSchool teacher gets installed by STS on teacher PC.

There are some caveats.
  • It is USER based, not device based.  Which means each user has to install or accept the LanSchool app. for each class.  If a student in first period who has used LanSchool on a Chromebook. When they log into a Chrome book 2nd period they will STILL show up on the first
  • Teacher must hit F5 (refresh) screen to NOT see past students.
  • Students must accept the Share Screen option and
  • Input their teachers LanSchool channel in EACH classroom
  • If a wrong channel is entered students must restart computer.

My Thoughts

I say "No". we are not going to use it here.
Why?
  1. Because, EVERY teacher (with Chromebooks) has to buy into it.  Since it is user specific. If student A logs in to a Chromebook in Teacher A's class and uses LanSchool... When in Student A logs in to Teacher B's class 2nd period (math?)  Student A will still be seen by Teacher A. Unless or until the student changes their own channel.
  2. I am not sure ALL Teachers here will even use LanSchool teacher.  Many do not even use it while in the current computer labs.

I may be wrong and I would be happy to have it pushed out if Chromebook teachers will use it.

Booktrack Classroom

Yet another very cool website/app for your Google thing... AKA Chromebook. Or other device using Chrome!
BookTrack Classroom
What is it?  Good question.  Put the words together and you got it.  Add tracks to books.  Which seems weird and distracting until you start thinking of the uses for it....  Yes you can add background noises, sounds and sound effects to works of literature and then read along with your added noises.

WAIT! Before you don't like the idea... You can also add your own text.  So, think of it this way.

Students can create your own writing assignment/essay/paper.  The assignments might be on mood or tone.  Now students can copy and paste their work into this app and add some effects to their assignment and see if the tone or mood really matches the added effects.   Sounds and effects can get added to different sentences and you can change the speed.  So in this sense it could work well.  Students can still create the work but use this site to "jazz it up" a bit.

Teachers create an account and then a classroom.
Students create an account and Join the classroom.  Content can be shared in the classroom (or publicly) so that students may see other students work and evaluate it.

Drawback - Students work will become public on this website.  BUT they can delete it after the teacher grades it or it is presented...

There are more lesson plans and ideas for teachers... Here is sample one for "Invoking Fear" in writing.

Have fun.

Not sure what is in the name - there is no puzzle. But it is a cool video/questioning site.  https://edpuzzle.com/

Teachers;
  • Create your account.
  • Find your video from the usual sources.
  • Crop the video as needed.
  • Add questions, comments.
  • Save to a folder (I would do a folder for each period)
  • Add a due date.
  • Give students Your classroom code. (Canvas Link, Tone...)

Students;
  • Create and account using your 444@granitesd.org account
  • Get the Classroom code from your teacher
  • Do the assignment.

Teachers;
  • See results of questions (scores)
  • Completion % of video watched.
