The worst part was filling out my contact info for each teacher. I finally just told teachers to contact me through Gradebook or Canvas. Teachers DO NOT NEED to collect that information from parents or students. The school already has it in Canvas and Gradebook (via Discovery). If the parents have not done this they probably are the same type who are not going send back a disclosure statement too. It is also the dreaded double edged sword of teacher don't use it because parents don't register. Well teachers - why should they if you don't use it...?
One teacher asked me how to do that... So here goes. Well maybe this is not the right place for those instructions. I will send instructions to the staff later. BUT - STUDENTS you must set up your profiles in G book and Canvas with your CORRECT e-mail address one that you check. Here is how to do that. I show everyone (students) that comes to the Sophomore Orientation but I know absences happen, and teachers don't bother o come to orientation.
Parents - you need to register through the Parent Portal and you get notified that way. After that is completed teachers will have access to e-mail you through Grade book and canvas. There is no need for teachers to store 200 or so e-mail address for their students and respective parents.
If teachers use Grade book to send e-mail, Grade data can be sent as well. In the Canvas Grades teachers can message those who have or have not turned in the assignment. Teachers don't even need to know or see the actual addresses in the e-mail.
It is so much easier for both parties to NOT have to collect and store individual e-mails. Let Canvas / Gradebook and Discovery do their job.
Teacher if you insist on collecting student parent contact info on your own at least use a Google Form so that YOU don't fill up your address book/Contacts with hundreds of address that you probably will never use.
