Digication (AKA - SLCC Portfolio tips)

You get the honor of making a Portfolio for your college.  I get the honor to help. Let's do this!
  1. Samples.  SLCC EPortfolio - Check out the Samples too
  2. First things first!!!
    1. You are a student/child. Be careful what you put on-line. Don't ever get too personal on a PUBLIC page.  Digication is NOT public - It is private at SLCC... It is different than social media, but please be careful out there in internet land.
    2. Your GraniteSD accounts WILL go away when you leave GSD - You will NOT be able to access your files.  Right now, - today you will put only things for your Portfolio on your personal drive to complete this assignment.  In May you should use TAKE OUT and get ALL your GraniteSD (and M:Drive) stuff moved to a personal acct.
    3. TODAY - DAY ONE of Digication... - log in to your @granitesd account.  Find the files you NEED for this class.  Right click on it. Share it with your PERSONAL Goolge acct.
Log in to your Personal Google account. MAKE a copy of the file(s) you just shared.  Make a folder called Portfolio to save them in.  Your PERSONAL acct. MUST be the OWNER! Click on Share and Advance to see who the owner is!  Make sure it is YOUR personal acct.
    4. PDF or JPG/PNG? (Generally)
      1. jpgs/png show up in a webpage, images, colors, graphics not for printing
      2. pdf's are links and are not visible on a webpage.  Normally for reading/printing longer documents as it keeps the formatting.
    5. Link or direct file upload?
      1. Links are for dynamic or "living" Google docs. or other websites.
      2. File upload is more permanent/secure
      3. In Google Docs go to "File" - download as...) In Digication upload the file
      4. Do NOT upload or link to a Word file - or any MS Office file. Exceptions? Always - but not for this class.
      5. Pictures on phone?  Save to personal Google photos. On PC... Go to google photos, download it, upload to Digication.
    6. Snipping Tool
      1. Know how to use it!!!

Digication! SLCC's Portfolio website.  I do not know your log-ins.  You will have to get it from your teacher!
Link to log in (use the instructions on the right)

I have an account here and have been quite impressed with the site and it's instructions.  So I did NOT create many instructions for you! READ the pop up menus - they are very informative and make sense.  Keep my comments above in mind too.  Below are basic instructions/suggestions
  • Get your English 1010 content added first. Then "Make your site cute"
  • In the edit boxes YOU have to highlight some text before you can add a link or file!!!
  • I tried to add a picture from Google Photos... Took too long and I cancelled it.  Download the photo from your drive then upload it.
  • Click the toggle at the top for "Edit Mode" or "Published view"
  • To Log out. Top left icon. User icon. Logout.
  • What about classes you have NOT taken yet?  I would either hide those pages and remember how to add them back or edit those pages saying when you will take those classes.  Blank template sometimes look silly!  To make them "go away" or "Private" click the Lock in the banner.  Then click the edit tool on the menu bar.  Find the pages to "remove". Click the gear (settings) and click the box for private.  Add a page for Résumé?
  • Move your "Things" up or down the page by clicking the "Directional arrows" and dragging.
  • You can make it public if you ever need to share it outside of SLCC (password is olympus)
Top right. Etc. bars. Settings. Permissions & Share. Edit.

  • When submitting it.  Go to Settings.  (Top right etc. bars.) COPY that URL.
Make it Private to SLCC only or make it public and password it.  Give your viewers the password as I did above.

Share it with your teachers... Starting typing their name and it should appear eventually
  • Follow instructions on your paper on how to get to your MySLCC page to submit it.  Paste it.

If you need more help YOU need to come see Mr. Smedberg.
