Digication (AKA - SLCC Portfolio tips)

You get the honor of making a Portfolio for your college.  I get the honor to help. Let's do this!
  1. Samples.  SLCC EPortfolio - Check out the Samples too
  2. Your GraniteSD accounts WILL go away when you leave GSD - You will NOT be able to access your files.  In May or June you should use TAKE OUT and get ALL your GraniteSD (and M:Drive) stuff moved to a personal acct.
  3. TODAY - DAY ONE of Digication... - log in to your @granitesd account.  Find the files you NEED for this class and them as a .pdf or images.
  4. PDF or JPG/PNG? (Generally)
  5. jpg/png show up in a webpage, images, colors, graphics not for printing
  6. pdf's are links or embedded and are not always visible on a webpage.  Normally for reading/printing longer documents as it keeps the formatting.
  7. Link or direct file upload?
  8. Links are for dynamic or "living" Google docs. or other websites.
  9. File upload is more permanent/secure and viewable on the page.
  10. In Google Docs go to "File" - download as.pdf) In Digication upload the file
  11. Do NOT upload or link to a "Word" file - or any MS Office file. Are there exceptions? Always - but not for this class.
  12. Pictures on phone?  Save to personal Google photos. On PC... Go to google photos, download it, upload to Digication.
  13. Snipping Tool -Know how to use it!!!
  14. Although you're in a college class - you are still a student/child in GSD. Be careful what you put on-line. Don't ever get too personal on a PUBLIC page.  Digication is NOT public - It is private at SLCC... It is different than social media, but please be careful out there in internet land.

Digication! SLCC's Portfolio website.  I do not know your log-ins.  You will have to get it from your teacher or SLCC.
Link to log in (use the instructions on the right)

I have an account here and have been quite impressed with the site and it's instructions.  So I did NOT create many instructions for you! READ their pop up menus - they are very informative and make sense.  Below are basic instructions/suggestions
  • Get your content from class added first. The point of same template is to help everyone in class.  After class change templates all you want.
  • In the edit boxes YOU have to highlight some text before you can add a link or file!!!
  • I tried to add a picture from Google Photos... Took too long and I cancelled it.  Download the photo from your drive then upload it.
  • Click and toggle at the top for "Edit Mode" or "Published view" (You must set up the share settings first)
  • Move your "Things" up or down the page by clicking the "Directional arrows" and dragging.
  • You can make it public... for anyone - outside of SLCC.  I was having fun learning it... (password is olympus).  Top right. Etc. bars. Settings. Permissions & Share. Edit.
  • When submitting it.  Go to Settings.  (Top right etc. bars.) COPY that URL.
Make it Private to SLCC only or make it public and password it.  Give your viewers the password as I did above
  • In SLCC Share it with your teachers... Starting typing their name and it should appear eventually
  • What about classes you have NOT taken yet?  I would either hide those pages and remember how to add them back or edit those pages saying when you will take those classes.  Public blank template pages make you look unprofessional!  To make them "go away" or "Private" click the Lock in the banner.  Then click the edit tool on the menu bar.  Find the pages to "remove". Click the gear (settings) and click the box for private.
  • You can also add a page for Résumé if needed.
  • To Log out. Top left user icon. Logout.

If you need more help YOU need to come see Mr. Smedberg.
